A letter From Perry
Hello, my name is Perry Lambert. I'll tell you why I'm helping with the page but first a
little information about me. I was born and raised in Wichita KS which is better known as
tornado alley. I'm 19 years old and working at O' Reilly Auto Parts until I start college
in the fall. In the future, I hope to become a law enforcement officer here in Kansas. As
a child, I was very afraid of any severe weather. My first tornado encounter was the
infamous Andover tornado. That was the first time that I had overcome my fear of severe
weather. As I watched several homes being destroyed I was in awe of the raw power of
mother nature at her fullest.
I started observing storms in 1995,
trying to learn storm structure and a little about chasing. Although I don't want to
pursue a career in meteorology, I still like to gather as much information on severe
storms as possible. In 1998, I met Paul Marinsky (KC0ABK) who was also a storm chaser and
I started chasing with Paul and Ken of TASC. Back in August on a very short chase, I met
Matt in Kechi Kansas who was chasing with Paul that day.
My soul purpose about helping with the KTC homepage is to help educate the public about
what mother nature is capable of. She has no pity due to foolishness or lack of
judgment.( Read
the disclaimer!) As of now I've been a certified spotter since 1997 and I would like to
thank John Ogren at the National Weather Service in Wichita and Jack Kegley with Sedgwick
County Emergency Management for their efforts in educating the pubic this year. These guys
have done a great job and I attended as many of the meetings as I could because of new
information. I would also like to thank Matt Dennis for giving me the opportunity to help
with the KTC page. I'm also working on getting my HAM Radio license so that I can join the
ARES radio group in Sedgwick County.
This spring I'll be helping Matt with
storm reports such as damage and other severe weather occurrences. Right now I'm working on another chase vehicle which
is a 1968 Ford Bronco. It will be completed in the next month or two, so look for it under
chase vehicles. This vehicle is being built for a disaster work truck with upgrades as a
winch in the future. I hope that I never have to put it to use but if I do it will be
ready.
I hope that any information that I put on the page will be of use to the public and just
remember severe weather is right around the corner so be prepared!
Don't be caught off guard when severe weather threatens your area, and take any warnings
that the National Weather Service issues into consideration. My purpose as a
spotter/chaser is to help alert the public of dangerous weather and to
prevent loss of life and injury. If you have any comments feel free to E-Mail me at plambert@fn.net
